Hand stitching has been used in many cultures such as the Japanese Boro, Indian Kantha, hand stitched quilts, mending clothes and many countries that have a history of hand-stitching traditions. We are now connecting with these old traditions to create beautiful works.
Explore this slow stitching process where we reuse fabrics and clothes. We will explore texture, stitch and subtle colours to create new old-look textile pieces, which could be, an art piece, a stitch journal, a bag or even an item of clothing.
Materials are included, but if you have a craft stash of fabric you have been keeping for a while you might like to bring along some of your own materials which will make your piece unique to you.
Ruth encourages the participants of her workshops to experiment using many materials exploring colour and texture.
What to Bring
You can bring your own fabrics to add but materials are included.
